The academic received the distinction at a gala held on 25 May at the <strong>Royal Tapestry Factory<\/strong> in Madrid. The event brought together some of the most prominent figures in Spanish healthcare and formed part of the celebrations marking the 34th anniversary of this leading publication in the health sector. Eleven other outstanding professionals in medicine, pharmacy and nursing were honoured alongside Guill\u00e9n.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by institutional representatives and healthcare professionals, including <strong>Javier Padilla<\/strong>, Secretary of State for Health; <strong>F\u00e1tima Matute<\/strong>, Minister of Health of the Community of Madrid; and <strong>Mar\u00eda Mart\u00edn D\u00edez de Balde\u00f3n<\/strong>, Minister of Health and Social Policies of La Rioja. During the ceremony, Diario M\u00e9dico underlined the importance of giving visibility to healthcare professionals and to the sector\u2019s commitment to innovation, research and patient care. Throughout his career, Guill\u00e9n has driven pioneering advances in arthroscopic surgery and regenerative medicine. His work has contributed to the development of new strategies for recovery from injury and the treatment of joint deterioration. From Cl\u00ednica Cemtro he continues to lead projects involving biomedical research, cell therapy and innovation applied to sports and trauma medicine.<\/p>\n<p>In Diario M\u00e9dico itself last April, Guill\u00e9n announced that he is considering introducing partial cellular reprogramming in Spain to treat knee osteoarthritis. This innovative technique, developed and already approved by the Japanese health system, uses human cells to regenerate damaged tissue and thereby avoid aggressive treatments such as joint replacement. In the longer term, Guill\u00e9n envisages the use of such therapies for cardiovascular, liver and neurological diseases that likewise involve cellular degeneration or necrosis.<\/p>\n<p>The pioneer who introduced arthroscopy in Spain, Guill\u00e9n is also a member of the <strong>National Academy of Surgery of Spain<\/strong>, the <strong>Royal National Academy of Pharmacy<\/strong>, the <strong>European College of Sports Traumatology<\/strong> and the <strong>Spanish Committee of Sports Medicine<\/strong>, and an honorary member of the <strong>Arthroscopy Association of North America<\/strong>. He has received some of Spain\u2019s highest civil distinctions, including the <strong>Medal for Merit in Labour<\/strong>, the <strong>Grand Cross of the Order of the Second of May<\/strong> and the <strong>Medal of Honour for the Promotion of Invention<\/strong>, among other major awards.
