Dr. Luis Pons<\/p><\/div>\n

Luis Pons<\/strong><\/em>, corresponding member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors<\/strong> (RAED), shares with the academic community the photo galleries \u201cPope Leo XIV\u2019s Greeting\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cThe Islam Khoja Minaret\u201d<\/strong>, published on 14 May and 12 June respectively in the \u201cReaders\u2019 Photos\u201d<\/strong> section of the digital edition of the newspaper \u201cLa Vanguardia\u201d<\/strong>. In them, the prolific photographer presents the images he took in Rome of Leo XIV<\/strong> before the Pope\u2019s journey to Spain, anticipating his warmth towards the crowds, along with a brief selection from his journey along the Silk Road, featuring cities and places he regards as a paradise for photographers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAfter passing through the security checks, I managed to position myself in the front row by a barrier, far away from everything. I was surrounded by other members of the faithful and their children. It was the end of the Jubilee begun by Pope Francis<\/strong>. Suddenly, I saw the popemobile. Within a few minutes, my moment arrived. From just a few metres away, I said, \u2018Buongiorno, Papa,\u2019 and he greeted me with an open, sincere look. I had the opportunity to take several photographs, and I hope that during his stay in our country other photographers will also experience wonderful moments in which to take such close-up pictures of a great Pope. I share these images with respect and affection,\u201d he explains regarding the pontiff\u2019s photo gallery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Regarding his other journey, Pons focuses his lens on the Islam Khoja Minaret, illuminated at night in the ancient walled city of Itchan Kala, in Khiva, Uzbekistan. \u201cThe minaret is known for being the tallest in the city, with decorative turquoise tiles and a slender conical structure. The surrounding area, Itchan Kala, is a well-preserved historic complex renowned for its adobe buildings and medieval atmosphere,\u201d he notes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The academic is one of the regular photographers featured in this section, where he has published a variety of photographic series on different subjects that have been warmly received by the newspaper\u2019s readers. Among his most recent galleries are \u201cThe Chupa Chups of the Collserola Tower\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cImages of the Sant Joan Festival\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cWhat Did Barcelona\u2019s New Year\u2019s Fireworks Look Like?\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cA Guide to Identifying the Birds of Diagonal Mar\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cWhen the Moon Waxes Beside the Gl\u00f2ries Tower\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cFrida Kahlo\u2019s Creative Universe, in Monochrome and Colour\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cAre Pickpockets Resurfacing in Barcelona?\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cDragonflies Return to Barcelona\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Milky Way with Meteors in La Cerdanya\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Living Nativity Scene of Corbera\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cThe Colours of Autumn in Montseny\u201d<\/strong>\u2014one of whose images was selected as one of the best photographs of last November\u2014, \u201cThe Visual Delight of the Blossom in Aitona\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cThe Flamingos of the Ebro Delta\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He is also the creator of the celebrated photo galleries featuring the moon as their central subject: \u201cThe Moon\u2019s Daily Visit\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Crescent Moon Levitates among Windswept Clouds\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cDiscover the Language of the Moon\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe New Moon Shines as Never Before in Barcelona\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Settings of B\u00e9cquer\u2019s \u2018The Moonbeam\u2019\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Buck Moon Rests over La R\u00e0pita\u201d<\/strong>, \u201cThe Moon\u2019s Omega Effect in the Ebro Delta\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cThe New Moon of Marrakesh\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Luis Pons discovered photography in the 1980s, inspired both by his interest in the chemical process involved in developing negatives for print photography and by his close involvement with the photography departments of the newspapers \u201cEl Pa\u00eds\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cAvui\u201d<\/strong>, where he worked as an executive, as he has explained to the academics who have closely followed his work in recent years. From there, he made the transition to digital photography.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
