The Royal European Academy of Doctors<\/strong> (READ) presents a new issue of its scientific journal \u201cTribuna Plural\u201d<\/strong>, a special monograph devoted to the 7th National Congress<\/strong> held by the Royal Academy in Lanzarote between 25 and 28 April 2024 under the title \u201cScience and biodiversity: views from Lanzarote\u201d<\/strong>, and to the 8th National Congress<\/strong> held in Fuerteventura under the title \u201cHorizons of contemporary thought\u201d<\/strong> between 31 October and 3 November of that same year, both with the collaboration of the Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Humanities of Lanzarote<\/strong>. The publication brings together all the lectures presented during the academic sessions into which the two events were divided, following the usual format of brief, multidisciplinary conferences. The opening of both programmes was led by the presidents of the two academies: on behalf of the Academy of Lanzarote, Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who is also an Honorary Member of the READ, and on behalf of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, Alfredo Rocafort<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who is also a member of the host institution.<\/p>\n

At the 7th National Congress of the READ, the speakers included the academics Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Calvo<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, president of the institution\u2019s Institute for International Cooperation, who presented the paper \u201cFrom Balmis to Karik\u00f3\u201d<\/strong>; Esther Subir\u00e1<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who delivered \u201cLanzarote: between dreamlike beauty and a solid economy\u201d<\/strong>; Jaume Llopis<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, with the lecture \u201cThe effectiveness \u2014 or otherwise \u2014 of boards of directors\u201d<\/strong>; and Ignacio Buqueras<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who presented two papers: \u201cSpain\u2019s world, cultural, natural and intangible heritage\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cUniversal Tribute to the Spanish Language\u201d<\/strong>, updating the activity of the Foundation for the Dissemination and Promotion of Spain\u2019s World Heritage<\/strong> and of the Universal Tribute to the Spanish Language<\/strong>, which he himself chairs. They were joined by fellow academics Rafael Urrialde<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, with \u201cSustainability in the food chain\u201d<\/strong>; Carlos Grau<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who presented \u201cThe cardinal points of management\u201d<\/strong>; Cecilia Kindel\u00e1n<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, with the lecture \u201cCan we live without the internet?\u201d<\/strong>; Josep Alet<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who presented \u201cHow to develop scalable businesses\u201d<\/strong>; and Maria \u00c0ngels Calvo<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who concluded the presentations with \u201cEmerging diseases in the 21st century\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For its part, the 8th National Congress featured the participation of READ members Antonio Alarc\u00f3<\/strong>, who presented the lecture \u201cChallenges and opportunities in the use of artificial intelligence in medical-surgical practice\u201d<\/strong>; Maria \u00c0ngels Calvo, with \u201cStrengthening public health in Europe\u201d<\/strong>; Llu\u00eds Giner<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, who presented the study \u201cThe safety of dental materials and products\u201d<\/strong>; Carlos Grau, who spoke on the \u201cRelationship between companies and their collaborators\u201d<\/strong>; Jes\u00fas Lafuente<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, with \u201cReport on activities in humanitarian aid in neurosurgery\u201d<\/strong>; and Jaume Llopis, with the lecture \u201cWhat good managers do\u201d<\/strong>. F\u00e9lix de la Fuente<\/strong>, former head of the Spanish minutes of the European Parliament<\/strong>, also took part with the paper \u201cEuropean integration: the great project that could remain a mere utopia\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The READ and the Academy of Lanzarote maintain a collaboration agreement for the dissemination of scientific and academic knowledge through participation in institutional events and the organisation of activities of common interest to both institutions. In this regard, the two institutions agreed to collaborate in the academic sphere by promoting interdisciplinary activities in the scientific, technical and cultural fields, encouraging multidisciplinary initiatives, fostering study, research and teaching, contributing to the development of the sciences, letters, arts and everything that tends towards the dissemination of culture, and promoting both in-person and online meetings between scientists of recognised prestige from both entities to deliver lectures.<\/p>\n
