The Royal European Academy of Doctors<\/strong> (READ) held its 10th International Academic Meeting<\/strong> aboard an exclusive river cruise along the Rhine under the overarching title \u201cThe Rhine as a Current of Knowledge: Cross-Border Dialogues.\u201d<\/em> The event took place between 15 and 20 March, bringing the academic community to the German cities of Frankfurt, Mainz, Boppard, Bonn, Cologne and Koblenz. The academic sessions were held over five days, during which speakers delivered their presentations in the short format\u2014approximately 15 minutes\u2014adopted in recent national and international meetings. In addition, a large academic delegation participated in a joint academic event organised by the Royal Corporation together with the German Sport University Cologne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Academics and accompanying guests also enjoyed numerous cultural visits throughout the programme, including the iconic Iron Bridge in Frankfurt; the historic centre of Mainz; the Lorelei, one of the most emblematic stretches of the Rhine; the centre of Boppard, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO<\/strong> for its ancient Roman walls, the Electoral Castle, the Romanesque Church of St. Severus and its picturesque half-timbered houses; the Beethoven Museum<\/strong> and the composer\u2019s birthplace; and the Roman legacy of Koblenz, among many other attractions.<\/p>\n

Following the opening of the event by the President of the Board of Governors<\/strong>, Alfredo Rocafort<\/u><\/em><\/a>, the scientific programme began with contributions from Ignacio Buqueras<\/u><\/em><\/a>, who presented \u201cCivil Society and the Political Class\u201d<\/em>; Maria \u00c0ngels Calvo<\/u><\/em><\/a>, who delivered \u201cBiosecurity and Biopolitics: A Geopolitical Reading of Migration from the One Health Perspective\u201d<\/em>; Montserrat Casanovas<\/u><\/em><\/a>, with \u201cImpacts of Donald Trump\u2019s Economic Policy\u201d<\/em>; and Esther Subir\u00e0<\/u><\/em><\/a>, who spoke on \u201cTerritorial Ageism and European Reconfiguration: The Blue Banana Facing the Challenge of Irrelevance.\u201d<\/em> They were joined by Juan Mar\u00eda D\u00edaz<\/strong> and Ana Mar\u00eda D\u00edaz<\/strong> with \u201cAlternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms Outside State Jurisdiction\u201d<\/em> and \u201cAI in Creative Thinking: Benefits and Drawbacks,\u201d<\/em> respectively.<\/p>\n

In the second session, Josep Alet<\/u><\/em><\/a> presented \u201cThe AI Paradox of 2026: From Generic Technology to Situated Capability\u201d<\/em>; Llu\u00eds Giner<\/u><\/em><\/a> spoke on \u201cTransformative Education: Notes for a Reassessment of the Dialogue Between Humanism and Technology\u201d<\/em>; Joaquim Gironella<\/u><\/em><\/a> delivered \u201cComplex Systems Medicine: A New Paradigm. Medicine as a Pluricausal Biological System\u201d<\/em>; Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada<\/u><\/em><\/a> presented \u201cThe Current Geopolitical (Dis)Order and Its Hidden Variables for Understanding the Future\u201d<\/em>; and Frederic Borr\u00e0s<\/u><\/em><\/a> addressed \u201cFrom Globalisation to Fragmentation: Implications for Europe.\u201d<\/em> The session concluded with Santiago Castell\u00e0<\/u><\/em><\/a> and his presentation \u201cWhat Is Happening to Us? The Decline of Europe\u2019s Universal(izable) Proposal: Being Reduced from Narrative to Data.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The third session was opened by Jaume Llopis<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cPurpose as a Driver of Sustainable Innovation.\u201d<\/em> This was followed by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Sim\u00f3n Castellv\u00ed<\/strong>, who spoke on \u201cHow AI Contributes to Restoring Health and Maintaining Quality of Life During Human Ageing.\u201d<\/em> Francesc Miralles<\/strong> presented \u201cSystemic Sustainability: From \u2018Laudato Si\u2019 to Socio-Ecological Systems\u201d<\/em>; Ferm\u00edn Morales<\/u><\/em><\/a> addressed \u201cThe Rise of Artificial Intelligence: Is Privacy Still Possible?\u201d<\/em>; Paula Plaza<\/u><\/em><\/a> delivered \u201cThe Creative Odyssey: From the Brush to AI, Tracing Shifts in the Artist\u2019s Mental Paradigm\u201d<\/em>; Manuel Sans Segarra<\/u><\/em><\/a> presented \u201cHealth in Today\u2019s Society\u201d<\/em>; \u00d3scar L\u00f3pez<\/u><\/em><\/a> spoke on \u201cTestamentary Will in Life and Death (An Approach to the Concept of Will and the So-Called Living Will)\u201d<\/em>; and finally Ignacio Bonasa<\/u><\/em><\/a> delivered \u201cLeading with Soul in Times of Uncertainty: Leadership as a Vital Challenge for a New Era.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The fourth and final session featured Rafael Urrialde<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cFood and Climate Sovereignty: New Frontiers of the 21st Century\u201d<\/em>; Carlos Grau<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cA Message of Hope for the European Union\u201d<\/em>; Mari\u00e0ngela Vilallonga<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cStudia Humanitatis\u201d<\/em>; V\u00edctor Canivell<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cWhat to Do in the Face of the Quantum Apocalypse, Where All Internet Privacy Will Be Lost\u201d<\/em>; and Aquilino Garc\u00eda<\/u><\/em><\/a> with \u201cNew Drugs for Weight Control and Reduction.\u201d<\/em> They were joined by Roc\u00edo Naveja<\/strong>, who presented \u201cWhat Has Been Lost in the Classroom: Recovering the Deep Humanistic Meaning of Education.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
