The medicine of the future must focus on prevention, the mind-body connection, and improving people\u2019s quality of life,<\/em>\u201d stated Dr. Arrojo. <em>\u201cBeing a Numerary Member is not only a prestigious title but also a commitment to advancing and sharing knowledge. From my new position in the READ, I will continue working passionately to promote innovation and research in comprehensive health.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The article also highlights Arrojo\u2019s reminder that around <strong>40% of cancer cases could be prevented<\/strong> through the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on her pioneering experience in oncology\u2014based on an integrative approach centered on the person rather than the disease\u2014the new Academician advocated for a model of medicine that combines innovation and scientific evidence with empathy, awareness, responsibility, and ethical integrity. She offered practical insights for contributing to cancer prevention and treatment as a patient, relative, or citizen, based on the premise that the true medical revolution lies not only in curing, but also in caring, accompanying, and transforming health into an act of solidarity, responsibility, and awareness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-148255 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/bioetica-en-la-relacion-medico-paciente-shutt-dst.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/bioetica-en-la-relacion-medico-paciente-shutt-dst.webp 600w, https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/bioetica-en-la-relacion-medico-paciente-shutt-dst-440x264.webp 440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Arrojo situated her speech in the tension between technological progress and the loss of emotional connection in medical practice. <em>\u201cWe have never possessed so much scientific knowledge, and yet we have rarely been so in need of wisdom,\u201d<\/em> she reflected during her address. The oncologist emphasized the need to train doctors capable not only of curing but also of accompanying patients, reminding the audience that healthcare professionals often suffer from emotional overload that threatens their vocation. In this regard, she called for medical education to include emotional management and self-care tools, which she considers essential to sustaining the mental health of practitioners themselves.<\/p>\n<p>After earning her degree in Medicine and Surgery from the <strong>University of Navarra<\/strong>, where she was selected as the only internal student of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Clinic of Navarra, Arrojo specialized in <strong>Radiation Oncology<\/strong>, completing her residency at the <strong>Central Hospital of Asturias<\/strong>. She began her medical career at the <strong>Marqu\u00e9s de Valdecilla University Hospital<\/strong>, where she developed a pioneering technique for breast cancer treatment, reducing the number of radiotherapy sessions from 33 to a single outpatient session\u2014while also lowering the radiation dose to healthy tissues.<\/p>\n<p>The now-renowned oncologist later moved to Michigan, where she continued her professional career at the international oncology center <strong>21st Century Oncology<\/strong>, serving as <strong>Research Coordinator<\/strong>. For her contributions, she was recognized as an <strong>Extraordinary Person in Science<\/strong> and honored by the <strong>American Brachytherapy Society<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Holding a PhD <em>cum laude<\/em> from the <strong>University of Oviedo<\/strong> with her thesis <em>\u201cUrethral Protection in the Treatment of Prostate Cancer with Radiotherapy,\u201d<\/em> Arrojo has become one of the leading experts in <strong>oncological pain management and nutrition<\/strong>. She is the principal investigator in ongoing <strong>oncothermia research<\/strong> projects at both the <strong>Marqu\u00e9s de Valdecilla University Hospital<\/strong> and the <strong>Institute of Advanced Oncology<\/strong>.
