Luis Pons<\/strong><\/a>, Corresponding Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (READ)<\/strong>, shares with the academic community his photo gallery \u201cThe Colors of Autumn in Montseny,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> published on November 2 in the \u201cReaders\u2019 Photos\u201d<\/strong> section of the digital edition of La Vanguardia<\/em>.<\/strong> \u201cThe spectacle of color in the Montseny woodlands appears just a few kilometers before reaching Santa Fe del Montseny from Sant Celoni, along a winding and challenging road through evergreen forests and worrying cliffs,\u201d introduces the author in the text accompanying the images.<\/p>\n

For the photographer, the sensations evoked by this seasonal change in the heart of nature, only a few kilometers from Barcelona, are well worth a visit and represent a true privilege within easy reach. \u201cContinuing along the road into the province of Girona, one can enjoy a marvelous palette of colors, with carpets of fallen leaves that are a delight to experience and to capture in photography\u2014although, in this case, it is difficult for the camera to fully convey the beauty that must, in any event, be preserved,\u201d<\/em> concludes Pons in the brief text that accompanies his snapshots.<\/p>\n

The academic is one of the regular contributors to this section, where he has published several photographic series on diverse subjects, all of which have been well received by La Vanguardia<\/em> readers. Luis Pons discovered photography in the 1980s, driven both by his interest in the chemical process of developing negatives into paper photographs and by his proximity to the photography departments of El Pa\u00eds<\/strong><\/em> and Avui<\/strong><\/em>, where he worked as an executive, as he explained to fellow Academicians who have followed his work in recent years. From there, he made the leap to digital photography.<\/p>\n

Once completed,\r\nthe structure will reach 172.5 meters in height and is expected to be\r\nfinished during 2026, marking the completion of the basilica\u2019s\r\nconstruction after more than a century.\r\n\r\nAs journalist Guillermo Altarriba explains in the accompanying\r\narticle, the first piece of the cross\u2014its lower arm, which serves as its\r\nsupport\u2014was installed on October 30, an event captured in detail by\r\nSim\u00f3n Castellv\u00ed\u2019s photographs. \u201cIt stands 7.25 meters tall and\r\nweighs 24 tons. It will form part of a spectacular four-armed structure,\r\nsimilar to other crosses designed by Antoni Gaud\u00ed, such as those atop\r\nCasa Batll\u00f3 and Torre Bellesguard. The cross will be covered in glazed\r\nwhite ceramic and glass, so it will gleam in the sunlight,\u201d<\/em> the\r\ntext notes.\r\n\r\nAltarriba further details that the cross will ultimately measure 17\r\nmeters in height and 13.5 meters in width, featuring a double-twist\r\ngeometry\u2014the same design Gaud\u00ed used for the basilica\u2019s columns\u2014so that\r\nits base begins as a square and transitions into an octagon at the top.\r\n\u201cAccording to the basilica\u2019s technical team, the piece arrived last\r\nJuly divided into four panels, which were placed on a work platform 54\r\nmeters above the central nave. There, it was assembled, and the glass\r\nand interior elements were installed,\u201d<\/em> adds the journalist.\r\n\r\nThe gallery captures, with both precision and splendor, the key\r\nmoments of the installation of the cross\u2019s base\u2014from its slow and\r\ncareful ascent to the tower, under the watchful gaze of the sculptural\r\nrepresentations crowning the four lower towers of the Evangelists, to\r\nits exact positioning by specialized workers. \u201cOnce completed, the\r\ncross will serve as an observation point, although the project directors\r\nemphasize that it is not intended merely as a tourist lookout, but as a\r\nplace for spiritual elevation\u2014a space to draw closer to God, to\r\ncontemplate the work of creation and humankind, whom Jesus invited to\r\nlove as brothers. Inside, as envisioned by Gaud\u00ed, will be installed a\r\nsculpture of the Agnus Dei\u2014the Lamb of God\u2014created by Italian artist\r\nAndrea Mastrovito,\u201d<\/em> continues the report.\r\n\r\nAltarriba concludes by outlining the schedule now guiding the\r\nSagrada Fam\u00edlia<\/em> Construction Board, whose Board of Trustees\r\nincludes Juan Trias de Bes<\/strong>, Director of the\r\nhARQware Platform Chair<\/em> at the School of Architecture of the\r\nInternational University of Catalonia and Numerary Member of the\r\nREAD<\/strong>. \u201cThe builders\u2019 goal is for the Tower of Jesus Christ\r\nto be blessed and inaugurated in June 2026, to coincide with the\r\ncentenary of Antoni Gaud\u00ed\u2019s death.
