Mr. Gabriel Masfurroll<\/p><\/div>\n

Gabriel Masfurroll<\/strong><\/a>, president of the Cl\u00ednicas Mi Group, economist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Honorary Academician and Extraordinary Ambassador of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED)<\/strong>, took part on October 17 in the ninth edition of the F\u00f2rum Quir\u00fargica<\/strong>, organized by Quir\u00fargica Cirujanos Asociados<\/strong> at the La Pedrera\u2013Casa Mil\u00e0 Auditorium in Barcelona, under the motto \u201cChanging the Rules of the Game.\u201d<\/strong> The event invited participants to reflect on how public and private healthcare systems can stop competing and start collaborating, sharing a single goal: the well-being of the patient. Over the years, the forum has become a leading meeting point for professionals in private medicine. This year\u2019s edition brought together hundreds of healthcare experts to share perspectives on the future challenges of the health system and the essential role of cooperation between sectors.<\/p>\n

Moderated by journalist Agn\u00e8s Marqu\u00e8s<\/strong>, the debate sessions featured prominent figures from the healthcare field. Alicia Jim\u00e9nez Mariscal<\/strong>, Head of Service at Quir\u00fargica Cirujanos Asociados, argued in favor of the compatibility between public and private systems: \u201cThe private sector should not fear the power of the public one, and the public sector should not fear the standards of the private one,\u201d she stated. Family doctor Azucena Carranzo<\/strong> supported this view, adding: \u201cPolitical ideology must not stand in the way of providing the best healthcare service. There is no position more \u2018private\u2019 than that of a civil servant.\u201d Meanwhile, Ramon Massaguer<\/strong>, General Director of the Puigvert Foundation<\/strong>, presented the French model: \u201cFrance\u2019s primary care system, with its immediate reimbursement mechanism, is a good model to follow.\u201d<\/p>\n

They were joined by Dani Mart\u00ednez Marroqu\u00edn<\/strong>, Managing Director of Dexeus Mujer<\/strong>, who called for an update of the public healthcare model: \u201cDemographics have changed, yet the healthcare system has not adapted. We no longer need a hospital in every corner of the territory. Citizens must have the freedom to choose,\u201d he emphasized. M\u00f3nica Reig<\/strong>, professor at Esade Business School and Director of EsadeGov, also advocated for a public-private system: \u201cThe public sector cannot absorb the entire capacity; it must promote supervised collaboration with the private sector,\u201d she remarked. Artur Mas<\/strong>, former President of the Government of Catalonia<\/strong>, supported this mixed model, asserting: \u201cEnough of thinking that everything private is sinful and everything public is good. Those in the private sector may not be fashionable, but you are more necessary than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"For her part, Elvira Bisbe<\/strong>, President of the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona<\/strong>, defended the quality and consistency of private healthcare within the Spanish and Catalan systems: \u201cPrivate healthcare is structural\u2014it is essential for the future. Every piece of the system is key,\u201d she affirmed. \u00c0lex Flor<\/strong>, CEO of Quir\u00fargica Cirujanos Asociados, called for boldness to undertake the major reform the sector still needs: \u201cThe key word is courage\u2014there\u2019s no other. Shall we take a step forward?\u201d he asked. Finally, Masfurroll urged not to draw distinctions between coexisting models that work perfectly within the same system: \u201cThere is no public and private sector\u2014there is only one. Those of us in the private sector should not feel inferior; we have nothing to be ashamed of,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Quir\u00fargica began its journey in 1986, when a group of surgeons founded a new model that sought to combine the best of public medicine\u2014practical experience and ongoing training\u2014with the strengths of private medicine\u2014efficiency and patient-centered care beyond the illness itself\u2014to deliver high-quality medical excellence. Today, it consists of a team of 19 surgeons working at Centro M\u00e9dico Teknon<\/strong>, Hospital Universitario Dexeus<\/strong>, Hospital CIMA<\/strong>, and Cl\u00ednica Sagrada Fam\u00edlia<\/strong>, all in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Masfurroll began his professional career as an economist in the healthcare sector and participated in the creation of the Catalan Down Syndrome Foundation<\/strong>. He chaired the Social Council<\/strong> of the Autonomous University of Barcelona<\/strong> for nearly a decade, although he first gained wide recognition as a member of FC Barcelona\u2019s executive board. He currently serves as advisor and board member for several companies, including Swedish firms Kreab Worldwide AB<\/strong> and EQT Capital Partners<\/strong>. Throughout his career, he has lectured as a visiting professor at prestigious business schools such as IESE<\/strong>, Esade<\/strong>, and Instituto de Empresa<\/strong>. He is also a mentor, advisor, and investor in young entrepreneurial ventures, a columnist in various media outlets, and the author of several key works in the field of business. His distinctions include the Creu de Sant Jordi<\/strong> of the Government of Catalonia<\/strong>, the Civil Order of Health Merit<\/strong>, and the Star of Solidarity of the Italian Republic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
