Nobel laureates Erwin Neher (Medicine, 1991), Aaron Ciechanover (Chemistry, 2004), Richard Roberts (Medicine, 1993) and Richard Schrock (Chemistry, 2005) have already signed the “Manifesto”<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

The campaign, an initiative of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED), has the collaboration of the Fidal Foundation, the University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).<\/h3>\n

Huawei<\/strong><\/a>, the company that sponsors the “Gal\u00e1pagos and Quito Scientific Expedition 2022”, together with Agrupaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/a>, will collaborate in the campaign by disseminating the manifesto<\/a> to more than 100,000 students around the world.<\/h3>\n

The former president of Ecuador, Rosal\u00eda Arteaga, and the vice president of Huawei Spain<\/a>, Therese Jamaa, will participate in the presentation ceremony at the Teatro Real in Madrid.<\/h3>\n

On November 21, the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED)<\/strong> and the\u00a0Huawei<\/strong><\/a> company will present the opening ceremony for the signing of the “Galapagos Manifesto”<\/strong><\/a>, drawn up during the “Galapagos and Quito 2022 Scientific Expedition” and made public last month of August at the University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). The Manifesto has been presented to institutions and entities, both academic and economic, social and cultural; who have shown their support for this initiative that consists of eight points: integrated water management, education, involvement of the intellectual world, natural capital, the role of philanthropic organizations, immediate local action, international commitment and compliance with laws and involvement of international institutions; concrete proposals to overcome the current situation of destruction of the environment and, especially, of the seas due to the contamination of plastics and microplastics.<\/p>\n

Nobel Laureates and RAED Honorary Scholars Erwin Neher<\/strong> (Medicine, 1991), Aaron Ciechanover (Chemistry, 2004), Richards Roberts<\/strong> (Medicine, 1993) and Richard Shrock<\/strong> (Chemistry, 2005) have already signed the Manifesto<\/strong><\/a>. The RAED is a public law corporation of a scientific, technical and artistic nature, whose purpose is research, study, promotion and the extension of knowledge in its broadest sense. It was established in 1914 and its objective is to generate knowledge and make it available to society to offer answers to global challenges, transfer today’s knowledge to future generations and generate debate and dialogue in the different branches of Science (Social Sciences, Sciences of Health, Human Sciences, Experimental Sciences and Technological Sciences).<\/p>\n

Alfredo Rocafort<\/strong>, president of the RAED, affirms that \u201cthe Galapagos, the Enchanted Islands, was the place where Darwin was inspired. With this initiative we ask the world to be able to make an evolutionary leap figuratively and go from Homo Sapiens -which given the problems we cause on the planet, we are less and less so- to become “Homo Galapaguensis”, a term that would represent a respectful and harmonious coexistence between human beings and the natural environment. We need this to be a new process in our evolution as a species to recover a more sustainable society, more respectful of the environment, more aware of the risks we run in the face of global warming and the consequent climate crisis, in the face of overexploitation of the seas, illegal fishing or overpopulation. It is essential to move from anthropocentrism to biocentrism to act with respect for other species. We owe it to the planet and to future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

People will be able to sign the “Galapagos Manifesto”<\/strong><\/a> through the Change.org platform. For its part, the Huawei<\/strong><\/a> company, sponsor of the “Gal\u00e1pagos and Quito 2022 Scientific Expedition”, together with Agrupaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/a>, will carry out a campaign for the signing of this important document by 100,000 students from all over the world.<\/p>\n

ACT AT THE ROYAL THEATER<\/h2>\n

On November 21, at 10:30 a.m., the presentation ceremony for the start of the campaign to collect signatures of the “Gal\u00e1pagos Manifesto” will be held at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The vice president of Huawei Spain, Therese Jamaa<\/strong>, will welcome the attendees and the former president of Ecuador, Rosal\u00eda Arteaga<\/strong>, will make the Opening Speech.
