From Murillo to Picasso) presents works by Spanish and European painters from the 18th century onwards, who interpret childhood within its family and social environment through different artistic trends such as realism, romanticism, naturalism, impressionism and expressionism, moving away from the rigid settings of palaces or churches where children had been typically represented.<\/p>\n<p>In the 18th century, the winds of the English, French and German Enlightenment \u2014with figures such as Locke, Hume, Voltaire, Diderot, Rousseau and Pestalozzi\u2014 shaped a new historical context in which the child acquires rights and a new social status. The child becomes an unrepeatable subject-person deserving of individual and personalised treatment, and this global movement also permeated painting. Interest in education, health, play, and maternal and family bonds is strongly present in these works.<\/p>\n<h3>Descriptive framework<\/h3>\n<p>Recognised works by authors who approached childhood themes are presented, analysed from both medical and artistic perspectives.<br \/>Murillo contributes his painting \u201cThe old woman delousing a child and a puppy\u201d, in Baroque style. A pioneer in Spanish painting depicting children enjoying freedom.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goya<\/strong>, with his work \u201cEl garrotillo\u201d or \u201cLazarillo de Tormes\u201d, uses a free romantic style to portray the drama of a father attempting to remove diphtheritic membranes from his child\u2019s throat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fildes<\/strong>, in his work \u201cThe Doctor\u201d, offers dramatic Victorian social realism.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Knaus<\/strong>, with German critical realism, presents the scene \u201cIn the kindergarten\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Verhas<\/strong>, a Belgian realist painter, presents an exquisite painting \u201cThe Little Painter\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Albert Anker<\/strong>, Swiss realist painter, presents \u201cThe Little Brother\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bouguereau<\/strong>, with French academic style, contributes \u201cLove for Childhood\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Among the naturalist painters, <strong>Millet<\/strong> stands out with his painting \u201cThe First Steps\u201d, reflecting his love of the countryside and childhood.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bastien-Lepage<\/strong>, in \u201cLittle Shepherd\u201d, portrays the widespread child labour of the time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virginie Demont Breton<\/strong>, with her \u201cChildren on the Beach\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bouland<\/strong>, realist painter, contributes \u201cParents\u2019 Love\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jean Jules Geoffroy<\/strong> presents his major work \u201cThe Milk Drop in Belleville by Dr. Variot\u201d, which explains the historical origin of this essential maternal-infant health institution created by L\u00e9on Dufour in F\u00e9camp (Normandy) and disseminated worldwide by Gaston Variot in 1906 during an international congress in Paris.<\/li>\n<li>Impressionism is represented by <strong>Berthe Morisot<\/strong> with her work \u201cThe Cradle\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mary Cassat<\/strong> with \u201cThe Child\u2019s Bath\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anna Ancher<\/strong>, with \u201cChild Vaccination\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Northern naturalist realism appears in <strong>Edelfelt<\/strong>, \u201cChildren on the Beach\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Larsson and his exquisite \u201cMotherhood\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The Norwegian expressionist <strong>Edvard Munch<\/strong> with his painting \u201cThe Sick Child\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The conference concludes with two Spanish painters: <strong>Joaqu\u00edn Sorolla<\/strong>, with \u201cLeaving the Bath\u201d, filled with Mediterranean light depicting a delicate and familiar childhood scene.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pablo Picasso<\/strong> closes the conference with his \u201cPink
