He obtained the grade of \u201cHonours\u201d and the Extraordinary Degree Award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>He is Head of the Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery and Transplant Unit at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clinicbarcelona.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Hospital Cl\u00ednic of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He trained in Surgery at the Hospital Cl\u00ednic, where he first joined as an intern by competitive examination and continued as a resident. He rose through all levels of responsibility until becoming Head of Department.<\/li>\n<li>In 1988, he performed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elperiodico.com\/es\/sociedad\/20250723\/primer-trasplante-rinon-espana-hospital-clinic-barcelona-hito-119967133\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>first liver transplant at the Hospital Cl\u00ednic of Barcelona.<\/strong><\/a> Since then, this institution has carried out more than 2,000 transplants, making it one of the most active centres in Europe. The unit performs all types of transplants, in addition to the conventional ones.<\/li>\n<li>He was a pioneer in adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation (2001), as well as in liver transplantation from donors after cardiac arrest. His group is currently a reference centre for organ procurement from this type of donors, using the Normothermic Recirculation technique.<\/li>\n<li>His work also focuses on complex hepatic surgery, including surgery for primary and metastatic liver tumours, with around 200 hepatectomies performed each year.<\/li>\n<li>He was a pioneer in incorporating laparoscopic surgery into Hepatic Surgery, making it a standard approach for many patients.<\/li>\n<li>He has been an invited professor and lecturer both in Spain and abroad.<\/li>\n<li>He has received numerous research grants, both public (from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educacionfpydeportes.gob.es\/portada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ministries of Education and Health<\/strong><\/a>) and private (pharmaceutical industry).<\/li>\n<li>His main current interest is the recovery of livers for transplantation from donors after cardiac death.<\/li>\n<li>He has been an invited speaker at various universities nationally and internationally, as well as at national (SET, SETH, AEC, AEHH, etc.) and international congresses (ESOT, ILTS, EASL, AASLD, CAST, Panhellenic, among others).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>PUBLICATIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Author of more than 400 articles, mainly in the field of Hepatic Surgery and Transplantation. Va n\u00e9ixer el 1952.<\/p><p>\u00c9s Catedr\u00e0tic de Cirurgia i Cap de Servei de Cirurgia General i Digestiva. \u00c9s el responsable de la Unitat de Cirurgia hepatobiliopancre\u00e0tica i Trasplantament de l'Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona.<\/p><p>Es va graduar a la Facultat de Medicina de la Universitat de Barcelona, llicenciant-se en 1975 i obtenint 28 matricules d'honor i 3 excel\u00b7lents. Va obtenir la qualificaci\u00f3 de Matr\u00edcula d'Honor i Premi Extraordinari de Llicenciatura.<\/p><p>Va realitzar la seva formaci\u00f3 en Cirurgia a l'Hospital Cl\u00ednic, on va entrar inicialment com a alumne intern per oposici\u00f3 i va continuar com a resident. Fins a arribar a ser Cap de Servei passar per tots els nivells de responsabilitat. El 1988, va realitzar el primer trasplantament de fetge de l'Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona i des de llavors aquesta instituci\u00f3 ha realitzat m\u00e9s de 2000, sent un dels centres m\u00e9s actius d'Europa.<\/p><p>La unitat realitza tot tipus de trasplantaments, a m\u00e9s del convencional. Va ser pioner en traspante hep\u00e0tic en adult procedent d'donant viu (2001), aix\u00ed com en trasplantament de fetge procedent d'donant en parada card\u00edaca. El seu grup \u00e9s en l'actualitat un centre de refer\u00e8ncia en l'obtenci\u00f3 d'\u00f2rgans a partir d'aquest tipus de donants, mitjan\u00e7ant la utilitzaci\u00f3 de la recirculaci\u00f3 normot\u00e8rmica.<\/p><p>La seva activitat tamb\u00e9 t\u00e9 a veure amb la Cirurgia Hep\u00e0tica complexa, aix\u00f2 inclou la Cirurgia de tumors hep\u00e0tics primitius i metast\u00e0tics, de les que es realitzen al voltant d'unes 200 hepatectomies a l'any.<\/p><p>Va ser tamb\u00e9 pioner en la incorporaci\u00f3 de la cirurgia laparosc\u00f2pica en la Cirurgia Hep\u00e0tica formant part de l'abordatge habitual de molts d'aquests pacients.<\/p><p>Ha escrit m\u00e9s de 400 articles, la majoria en el camp de la Cirurgia Hep\u00e0tica i el trasplantament. El seu factor d'impacte es troba per sobre de 560 i l'\u00edndex de Hirsh \u00e9s en aquests moments de 44.<\/p><p>Ha estat professor convidat i donat confer\u00e8ncies tant a Espanya com l'estranger.<\/p><p>Ha estat receptor de nombroses beques d'investigaci\u00f3, tant p\u00fabliques (dels ministeris d'Educaci\u00f3 i Sanitat) com privades (de la Ind\u00fastria), sent el seu inter\u00e8s principal en l'actualitat la recuperaci\u00f3 de fetges per a trasplantament a partir de donants a cor aturat.<\/p><p>Ha estat ponent convidat en diferents universitats, a nivell nacional i internacional.
