Van exercir com a padrins del recipiendari els professors <strong>Ramon Canal<\/strong>, del <strong>Departament de F\u00edsica Qu\u00e0ntica i Astrof\u00edsica<\/strong> de la UB, i <strong>Pilar Ruiz Lapuente<\/strong>, de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/icc.ub.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Institut de Ci\u00e8ncies del Cosmos<\/strong><\/a> de la UB i membre del projecte <strong>Supernova Cosmology<\/strong>, un dels dos equips que van contribuir a l&#8217;estudi que va valer el reconeixement de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.svenskaakademien.se\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Acad\u00e8mia Sueca<\/strong><\/a> a Perlmutter.<\/p>\n<p>Catedr\u00e0tic de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Universitat de Calif\u00f2rnia-Berkeley<\/strong><\/a>, on dirigeix \u200b\u200bl&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/bids.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Institut Berkeley per a la Ci\u00e8ncia de Dades<\/strong><\/a> i el <a href=\"http:\/\/bccp.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Centre per Cosmologia de Berkeley<\/strong><\/a>, Perlmutter va mer\u00e8ixer el Nobel per la seva demostraci\u00f3 de que l&#8217;univers s&#8217;expandeix de manera accelerada. Una troballa inesperada que va suposar un altre descobriment: el d&#8217;una energia fosca desconeguda fins al moment i que conforma les tres quartes parts de la mat\u00e8ria de l&#8217;univers. A Barcelona, \u200b\u200bdurant la cerim\u00f2nia d&#8217;investidura, Perlmutter va aprofundir en aquests descobriments amb la confer\u00e8ncia <strong>&#8220;What we learn when we learn that the universe is accelerating&#8221;<\/strong> (Qu\u00e8 aprenem quan aprenem que l&#8217;univers s&#8217;est\u00e0 accelerant), un recorregut sobre quin ha estat el progr\u00e9s experimentat des de la comprensi\u00f3 d&#8217;aquesta energia fosca i l&#8217;expansi\u00f3 del cosmos.<\/p>\n<p>Perlmutter tamb\u00e9 ha estat l\u2019impulsor d\u2019un projecte per estudiar l\u2019energia fosca analitzant la brillantor de supernoves molt llunyanes. Per fer-ho, va liderar una proposta per construir i llan\u00e7ar un telescopi mitjan\u00e7ant un sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit. Finalment, la NASA ha aprovat el Telescopi de Sondeig Infraroig de Camp Ampli (WFIRST), darrera versi\u00f3 d\u2019aquest projecte, que inclou tamb\u00e9 l\u2019estudi d\u2019exoplanetes i altres q\u00fcestions cosmol\u00f2giques, i que actualment est\u00e0 en fase preliminar de disseny.<\/p>\n<p>La Universitat de Barcelona \u00e9s una de les tres institucions europees, juntament amb la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cam.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Universitat de Cambridge<\/strong><\/a> i l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Observatori Europeu Austral<\/strong><\/a> (ESO), que figuren a l&#8217;article sobre les investigacions de Perlmutter, publicades a la reconeguda revista cient\u00edfica <strong>&#8220;Astrophysical Journal&#8221;<\/strong>. Una de les signants de l&#8217;estudi va ser la investigadora de la UB Pilar Ruiz Lapuente, qui es va unir al projecte Supernova Cosmology, dirigit pel propi Nobel, per liderar les observacions realitzades des de l&#8217;<strong>Observatori del Roque de los Muchachos<\/strong> (La Palma, Can\u00e0ries). Ejercieron como padrinos del recipiendario los profesores <strong>Ramon Canal<\/strong>, del <strong>Departamento de F\u00edsica Cu\u00e1ntica i Astrof\u00edsica<\/strong> de la UB, y <strong>Pilar Ruiz Lapuente<\/strong>, del <a href=\"https:\/\/icc.ub.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Instituto de Ciencias del Cosmos<\/strong><\/a> de la UB y miembro del proyecto <strong>Supernova Cosmology<\/strong>, uno de los dos equipos que contribuyeron al estudio que vali\u00f3 el reconocimiento de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.svenskaakademien.se\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Academia Sueca<\/strong><\/a> a Perlmutter.<\/p><p>Catedr\u00e1tico de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Universidad de California-Berkeley<\/strong><\/a>, donde dirige el <a href=\"https:\/\/bids.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Instituto Berkeley para la Ciencia de Datos<\/strong><\/a> y el <a href=\"http:\/\/bccp.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Centro para Cosmolog\u00eda de Berkeley<\/strong><\/a>, Perlmutter mereci\u00f3 el Nobel por su demostraci\u00f3n de que el universo se expande de manera acelerada. Un hallazgo inesperado que supuso otro descubrimiento: el de una energ\u00eda oscura desconocida hasta el momento y que conforma las tres cuartas partes de la materia del universo. En Barcelona, durante la ceremonia de investidura, Perlmutter profundiz\u00f3 en estos descubrimientos con la conferencia <strong>\"What we learn when we learn that the universe is accelerating\"<\/strong> (\u00bfQu\u00e9 aprendemos cuando aprendemos que el universo se est\u00e1 acelerando), un recorrido sobre cu\u00e1l ha sido el progreso experimentado desde la comprensi\u00f3n de esta energ\u00eda oscura y la expansi\u00f3n del cosmos.<\/p><p>La Universidad de Barcelona es una de las tres instituciones europeas, junto con la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cam.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Universidad de Cambridge<\/strong><\/a> y el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Observatorio Europeo Austral<\/strong><\/a> (ESO), que figuran en el art\u00edculo sobre las investigaciones de Perlmutter, publicadas en la reconocida revista cient\u00edfica <strong>\"Astrophysical Journal\"<\/strong>.
