L&#8217;acte es va poder seguir tant de forma presencial com en streaming a trav\u00e9s del canal de <strong>YouTube<\/strong> de la RAED, on es pot visionar. El recipienari va llegir el discurs d&#8217;ingr\u00e9s <a href=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Una-Vision-Personal-de-la-Epigenetica-Manel-Esteller-Badosa-cmpr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&#8220;Una visi\u00f3n personal de la epigen\u00e9tica: de la biolog\u00eda a la aplicaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>, on explica el cam\u00ed que ell mateix ha transitat al llarg de la seva reconeguda carrera cient\u00edfica per convertir-se en un dels referents internacionals a epigen\u00e8tica i en la investigaci\u00f3 del c\u00e0ncer. Li va respondre, en nom de la Reial Acad\u00e8mia, l&#8217;acad\u00e8mica numer\u00e0ria <a href=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/ca\/academics\/dra-carol-moreno-atanasio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Carol Moreno<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>El nou acad\u00e8mic va explicar com l&#8217;epigen\u00e8tica ha experimentat un ressorgiment els darrers anys gr\u00e0cies al paper que ha cobrat en la detecci\u00f3 de malalties i el desenvolupament de ter\u00e0pies. &#8220;Part del renaixement de l&#8217;epigen\u00e8tica \u00e9s degut a l&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia de tests basats en els seus marcadors per detectar certes malalties com el c\u00e0ncer o determinar l&#8217;edat biol\u00f2gica d&#8217;un individu. Per\u00f2 el pas clau ha estat segurament l&#8217;aprovaci\u00f3 de diversos f\u00e0rmacs epigen\u00e8tics per tractar-ne diverses patologies neopl\u00e0siques. Un \u00e8xit que ha estat fruit de l&#8217;esfor\u00e7 de diverses generacions de cient\u00edfics, des de bioqu\u00edmics fins a bi\u00f2legs estructurals fins a investigadors translacionals i cl\u00ednics. Si \u00e9s una disciplina fosca, l&#8217;epigen\u00e8tica s&#8217;ha convertit en el focus de recerca de nombrosos grups de recerca al m\u00f3n&#8221;, va iniciar Esteller la seva intervenci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Esteller va abordar el c\u00e0ncer com un exemple de malaltia en qu\u00e8 l&#8217;epigen\u00e8tica juga un paper important. Per aix\u00f2 va introduir el concepte de metilaci\u00f3, una reacci\u00f3 qu\u00edmica al cos per la qual una mol\u00e8cula petita que s&#8217;anomena grup metil s&#8217;uneix a l&#8217;ADN, prote\u00efnes o altres mol\u00e8cules. La metilaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;ADN al c\u00e0ncer pot afectar la regulaci\u00f3 de gens i causar expressi\u00f3 inapropiada de gens espec\u00edfics de teixit. Aquesta metilaci\u00f3 aberrant pot comen\u00e7ar a zones normals d&#8217;interacci\u00f3 de l&#8217;ADN i estendre&#8217;s a altres regions amb l&#8217;ajuda de factors oncog\u00e8nics que poden atreure els enzims de metilaci\u00f3 a llocs incorrectes. L&#8217;expert tamb\u00e9 va explicar que la hipermetilaci\u00f3 de gens supressors de tumors i gens de reparaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;ADN \u00e9s com\u00fa en el c\u00e0ncer, i que la metilaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;ADN s&#8217;ha convertit en una eina \u00fatil per al diagn\u00f2stic i el pron\u00f2stic d&#8217;aquesta malaltia. El primer \u00e9s la irrupci\u00f3 de les tecnologies per dur a terme an\u00e0lisis de c\u00e8l\u00b7lula \u00fanica que a m\u00e9s ara tamb\u00e9 es poden desenvolupar en l&#8217;\u00e0mbit espacial. La possibilitat de contemplar alhora la totalitat de la metilaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;ADN, les modificacions d&#8217;histones i el posicionament dels nucleosomes de forma din\u00e0mica a cada c\u00e8l\u00b7lula solit\u00e0ria \u00e9s molt excitant, no nom\u00e9s per comprendre els \u00faltims engranatges d&#8217;aquestes capes de regulaci\u00f3. gen\u00e8tica, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 per plantejar-nos el seu \u00fas cl\u00ednic, com per exemple en l&#8217;avaluaci\u00f3 de la malaltia m\u00ednima residual i el segon camp que permetr\u00e0 cr\u00e9ixer l&#8217;epigen\u00e8tica \u00e9s la seva disciplina filla: la epitranscript\u00f2mica, que estudia les modificacions de l&#8217;ARN, que s\u00f3n moltes i riques, i les diferents modificacions que formen el codi d&#8217;histones. I el primer f\u00e0rmac epitranscript\u00f2mic ha debutat en un assaig cl\u00ednic en oncologia\u2026 Gaudim d&#8217;aquest nou viatge del coneixement&#8221;, va concloure.<\/p>\n<p>Catedr\u00e0tic de Gen\u00e8tica a la Facultat de Medicina de la <strong>Universitat de Barcelona<\/strong>, Esteller dirigeix actualment l&#8217;<strong>Institut de Recerca contra la Leuc\u00e8mia Josep Carreras<\/strong> de Barcelona despr\u00e9s d&#8217;haver liderat el <strong>Programa d&#8217;Epigen\u00e8tica i Biologia del C\u00e0ncer<\/strong> de l&#8217;<strong>Institut de Recerca Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge<\/strong>.
