The unity of Christianity is possible and partly, to a large extent, to overcome the barriers that five centuries ago divided Catholics and Protestants. That was the main conclusion of the participants in the debate held in Barcelona by the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) under the title “Lutero, quinientos años después (1517-2017)” (Luther, five hundred years later (1517-2017)).

In the session have participated Josep Castanyé, professor emeritus of the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià and Catholic theologian specializing in German Protestant theology; Macià Riutort, professor at the Rovira i Virgili University, philologist and historian; Holger Luebs, pastor of the Deutschsprachige Evangelische Gemeinde Barcelona and specialist in Lutheran theology, and Salvador de Brocà, professor emeritus of the University Rovira i Virgili, full academician of the RAED and specialist in the history of Renaissance art.

The event has been conducted and moderated by Josep Ignasi Saranyana, full academician and president of the Human Sciences Section of the RAED. The debate of the RAED is in addition to the historic congress held in the Holy See at the end of March in which Saranyana also participated.
