Santiago Castellá, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has argued the lack of democratic guarantees of the referendum on the independence of Catalonia that plans to organize the Government of the Generalitat in a videoconference interview on the channel of Russian TV Sputnik.

“The right of self-determination appealed to by the Generalitat has only been applied to oppressed peoples as the paradigmatic case of South Africa under apartheid or occupied as might be the case of Palestine with Israel”, says the academician in his statements. “For the UN, moreover, it gives priority to the territorial integrity of States over the self-determination of peoples already constituted in a democratic way within a State”, he adds.
