The Academy shall be governed by a Board of Government, made up of the following elected charges: President, three Vice-presidents, the General Secretary, the Vice-secretary, the Editor, the Treasurer and the Presidents of the five sections.
The president shall call the Board of Government when the matters of the Academy so demand, and at least four times a year.
The General Board shall elect all the charges of the Academy in accordance with the procedure established in the regulations of the internal regime. The mandates shall be of five years and re-election is admitted.
If any charge becomes vacant before the date foreseen for the renovation, the Board of Government shall proceed for the cooptation in the period of three months and the mandate of the person chosen in the charge shall not be longer in this period than that of the holder who he or she succeeds.
In addition to the elected charges set out in this article, the president shall designate other charges when he or she considers it opportune in order to improve the Government of the Academy, and to coordinate the activities of the Academy in a determined territory. These appointments can always be revoked by the president once the task commissioned has been carried out, and in all cases they shall finish within the mandate of the president who has proposed it.
The president of the Academy assumes maximum directorial authority of the corporation and shall represent it in its relations with the public administrations, with the official corporations and with civil society.
In cases of vacancy, absence, illness or being impeded in any way one of the vice-presidents shall substitute the president.
In addition the vice-presidents shall take on the functions delegated to them by the president and shall make a good endeavour to work together with the sections.
The general secretary is the executive manager, who has charge of the good management and organization of the Academy.
He or she shall manage the services of the corporation and shall have in their immediate custody the books and the documents of the secretarial office and of the archives. He or she shall be assisted by the vice-secretaries and in case of vacancy, absence or illness, the latter shall substitute them in their functions.
