Judge Jesús Gerardo Sotomayor, doctor in Criminal Law, will enter the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) as corresponding academician for Mexico during a ceremony to be held in Barcelona on October 30. The recipient will read the entry speech “La influencia del derecho español en México” (The influence of Spanish law in Mexico). On behalf of the RAED will answer the full academician Jordi Martí.

Licensed by the Autonomous University of Coahuila and PhD by the Autonomous University of Northwest (Mexico), Sotomayor holds a long career as a lawyer, teacher and researcher. He was director of the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Coahuila and established the first postgraduate studies in Law in Coahuila and Durango. After a long trajectory at the head of several courts, at the moment he is magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice of the State of Coahuila. Along his career has earned him several awards, including the RAED Centennial Medal. He has published numerous monographs specialized in Advocacy and Criminal and Civil Law and has brought to light the details of historic judicial processes.
